The art of reading is in great part that of acquiring a better understanding of life from one’s encounter with it in a book. ~André Maurois
Open Book is a reader’s journal exploring the interplay between books and life.
My name is Jenni Pertuset. My first name, short for Jennifer, is correctly pronounced like “Jenna,” but if you say “Jenny” I won’t mind. I have a fondness for those whose mis-pronounciations reveal that they’ve never heard a word, only seen it. That identifies them as readers, and readers are my people.
I am a parent consultant, recovering lawyer, and homeschooling mom. I read for information, insight, and enjoyment, and my selections skew toward literary fiction and narrative nonfiction, along with books about parenting, writing, business, learning, and the relationship between people and place.
From every book invisible threads reach out to other books; and as the mind comes to use and control those threads the whole panorama of the world’s life, past and present, becomes constantly more varied and interesting, while at the same time the mind’s own powers of reflection and judgment are exercised and strengthened. ~Helen E. Haines
My writing here is intended to illuminate invisible threads.
